A "Tail" of Survival: WTC Kittens (from Sept 2001)

There were not many happy stories that came out of the rubble of the World Trade Center but this story of survival is one of the few bright spots.

A mother and her three kittens were found in a carton of napkins in the basement of a restuarant at the World Trade Center. The cats were immediately taken to the vet and were pronounced in good health, although the mom was a bit thin and dehydrated.

The mother has been christened "Hope" and the kittens have been named "Amber", "Freedom" and "Flag".

The Center for Animal Care and Control in Brooklyn has already received numerous calls from people ready to adopt the little survivors.

The mom and her kittens should be able to leave the hospital sometime in November.
