Plants Toxic to Cats and Other Dangers |
W A R N I N G * Do not consider this list to be comprehensive. We will try to keep this list as accurate and complete as possible. If you know of a dangerous plant or substance not listed, please email it to us at info@theanimalrescue.com with links and/or research. If you do not see a plant name listed, enter it into the google search box below to find out more information. (Example Search: oleander toxic cats) It is best to never let your cat eat anything you are unsure about. Your pet may have a sensitivity or allergy to a plant that is not on the list, resulting in toxicity. A list of safe plants is provided by the ASPCA National Animal Poison Control Center. The ASPCA also maintains a list of toxic plants and several very good articles such as "Ten Most Common Poisonous Plants" and "Keep Your Pet's Home Poison Safe". Symptoms of Plant Poisoning 1. Continual vomiting 2. Diarrhea 3. Refusal of food 4. Pale gums or tongue 5. Swollen tongue 6. Abdominal pain 7. Convulsions What To Do If your cat is displaying any one or combination of these symptoms it is possible it has injested a poisonous plant. Plant poisoning is dangerous and medical attention should be sought immediately. Try to identify the plant that has been injested and have its scientific name available when you contact your veterinarian. This information will provide for a quicker diagnosis and treatment. |
