(Trivia & Norman) Trivia (formerly Patricia)
Adopted by Laura H

Sorry it has taken me so long to report in. The former Patricia is beginning to settle in at the Hobbs residence. I've renamed her Trivia, after the Roman goddess. Norman hissed at her a lot at first, but when she finally came out from under the bed, she began hanging around the bedroom door where Norman was waiting on the other side. For several days, they just played "footsie" under the door. When we finally let Norman in for a bit, they began playing and the hissing stopped. So this past weekend, the door was opened. Now the two of them can be heard galloping up and down the hall upstairs, tossing toy mice and dragging string. Norman is much bigger, of course, but she is very fast and still has her claws, so they are about evenly matched. But it truly has been play, and not violence. I hope all is well, and that you had a lot of adoptions as a result of the open house.

Jumpin' Jack Flash
Adopted by Jan

Jumpin' Jack Flash has brought great joy to this household with his wonderful personality. He looks like a pussy cat in these photos, but he fully lives up to his "Rock Star" name. He's now four months old and weighs over seven pounds. I expect him to double in size. His feet are still way too big. He's absolutely delightful, full of playful exuberance and charisma, running and strutting across the floor, diving and rolling in mock battles with my other cat. We are all having a blast!

Lucky (formerly Isabelle)
Adopted by Susan

Just wanted to (finally) give you an update on Isabelle (who is now named Lucky). She is absolutely wonderful and has brought me so much happiness since I adopted her in June. She never ceases to amaze me with her endless energy and her ability to find unusual hiding places. One would never know she is a special needs cat and I am so happy to have her around. She recently moved in with my parents and their two cats while I am away and has also stolen their hearts. She gets along well with the others and loves to play with them. Thank you so much for helping me adopt her.

Verne and Violet
Adopted by Julie

Hello friends!

Attached are updated photos of Verne and Violet at the (nearly) 14 month anniversary of their adoption.

As you can see, they are quite beautiful and not at all spoiled!!  Haven't they grown up to be amazing cats?  Violet has come so far...she's no longer the scared wild cat and occasionally naps on me with such contentment.  Verne is still a mama's boy--loves to fetch and bring me mousies (Violet likes to play mousie too).  Verne still wakes me up each day and can't get enough attention.  I estimate that they each weigh about 11-12 pounds now.  they are so precious....even my friends can't wait to see them when the come over to visit.

I hope that each of your kitties finds homes like Vernie and Vi--they think they landed in paradise!

Julie

Talk to you later,
Jen

Daisy
Adopted by Lisa in 2003

Daisy loves Noah's crib and I am afraid she is going to rip his mobile to shreds. She is still crazy as ever. The kitten in her is still there. I have never seen a cat with so much energy. She plays for hours by herself with her favorite toys, ribbons. We have ribbons and play mice all over our house. She will eventually lose all of them and we find them under the couch, under the stove, in the basement, etc..... Then we go on a hunt for all of the lost toys ( the lost toy hunt is a game for her as well) and I throw them in a big pile. She picks her toy of the day from the pile and returns for a new one when she gets bored or loses the toy.

If you have Pam's e-mail address will you forward these pictures to her so she can see how Daisy has grown?

Take care.

Lisa

Monique
Adopted by Sarah W in 2003

Monique is doing so well in her new home. She loves being around Zoe, her tortoise-cat roommate. When she first came home in February 2003, she was very frightened of everything and everyone, but after time she has learned to become social. She loves when people pet her, even when her fur is sticking out everywhere from static! She also has her nighttime and morning routines when she purrs a lot and needs extra attention from her owners. We call her Neeki, short for Monique, but also because she (s)neaks around the house a lot. Her favorite things are batting around anything little and shiny on the floor, playing leapfrog over Zoe, rolling on the carpet, and sleeping on the bed until about 4:00 a.m. when she bites the covers. She is the most beautiful kitty, and has definitely developed a very lovable personality. We love her!

Sofi
Adopted 2004 by Wendy

Just wanted to let you know that Ursula aka Chloe and now finally as Sofia or Sofi for short is doing quite well.
She starts purring as soon as we pick her up and is very playful. Her favorite thing to do is to chase her mouse toy around the bathroom which is where she's staying until the other boys get used to her. She is not the least bit shy about them and will run after them to play. They don't think she's so cute yet but they're not growling as much.

Here's a photo taken yesterday.
I'll keep you up to date. She's definitely a keeper!!! Thank you and good luck.

Miles
Adopted Winter 2003 by Pam & Glenn C

Just wanted to let you know how thrilled my husband and I are with Niles... now officially "Miles Phitsamai Blue" -- or "Blue" for short, who we adopted Thanksgiving weekend.

My new "office assistant" is learning stay off mommy's desk and papers and to keep quiet while she's on the phone with clients. (My attorney thought he was a dentist's drill the other day. Ha!)

He helps by watching the computer cursor move across the screen and makes sure paper comes out of the printer. Very interesting stuff! He assists with filing by diving right into folders and newspapers. When he's not "helping out," he will often just curl up on my shoulder or lap while I type.

In his downtime, he enjoys cuddling, kissing, purring...and of course sleeping.

Thank you so very much for giving our kitten a wonderful early start and for all you and your partners do at OAR.

Pam & Glenn C

Opie
Adopted Winter 2003 by Anne N.

Eddie (now named Opie) is doing great. It was touch and go for about two weeks, with a lot of hissing going on, especially from my female cat, Lily. She still isn't crazy about him, but she's getting used to him, and she's even been known to play with him! Meanwhile, Opie seems to be very much at home. He's getting into everything, and doing a lot of running around and playing. It doesn't seem to phase him when the other two hiss at him--he's a brave little thing! I'm attaching a picture of him, and another picture of Opie with Buddy, his older brother and "twin." They're getting along fine. We're so glad we adopted Eddie/Opie.

Anne

Norman
Adopted Winter 2003 by Laura.

Norman is fitting in just wonderfully at our house. Our vet checked him out this morning and all is well.

Norman and Zoomer are doing fine together. Nobody is aggressive, and they will even share Bruce's (Dad's) lap. I don't think there has been even one hiss! Norman stays in Thomas's (12-year-old) bedroom whenever we need to contain him -- definitely at feeding time so he can get kitten food and Zoomer can get senior food with his medicine hidden in it. Norman sleeps with Thomas, also.

Norman is very sweet, smart and curious -- just what we were looking for. Thank you!

Here are photos of Norman settled down to "watch" TV with Thomas and with Zoomer investigating presents under the tree.

By the way, the tree has not been a problem. Norman looks, but hasn't climbed it.

Martha
Adopted Winter 2003 by Mike and Danielle.

Martha has both of us wrapped around her finger and we couldn't be happier about it. Thank you so much for making the adoption process so enjoyable and i know we will continue to stay in touch with OAR and recommend your organization to any RESPONSIBLE animal loving person we meet. I have attached a couple of pictures of Martha is her new home. Take care.

Erica
Adopted by June in September, 2003

Hi everybody. It's me, Erica.

I just wanted to send you a picture of me in my home. Look how pretty I am!!!

It is so wonderful having a home and a family and guess what! I also have a new name and it is Molly. I think it suits me just fine. I also have a big brother named Buster who is a doggie and a big brother Murphy who is a kitty like me. We run and play and sometimes even take a nap together. Oh, and you aren't going to believe this….Verne & Violet are my cousins. Yea!!!! I love my family so much and they love me too.

It's so wonderful here at home…..there is so much love and toys and treats….and places to hide when I get skittish and shy. And guess what else? There are so many windows to look out of! And, all five of us sleep in the same bedroom….because we want to. That's another thing, I can do whatever I want because I'm sweet and this is my home too. My favorite time is when I get petted and petted and petted. I act really cute then.

I miss all of you at the shelter…kitties and peoples and I hope that all you kitties will get a home soon!

Love, Molly

Ralphie and Riley
Adopted Fall 2003.

Dear O'Bryonville Animal Rescue,

Attached are some recent photos of Ralphie and Riley we wanted to share with you.

They are both doing extremely well and love their new home!!!

Thank you,

Jerry & Jessie

Note: You can see video of Ralphie and Riley in the O.A.R. Video Adoptions page.

Cleo & Ilean (aka Alison)
Adopted 2003.

Dear O.A.R.,
I would just like to send you an updated picture of Cleo & Alison (Ilean is what we named her). Cleo has finally gotten used to Ilean. It really took her some time, but they are doing quite well together. They are both spoiled rotten & get so much attention. They both have their own cat ATTIDUE.
Cleo is quiet & reserved & doesn't warm up to anyone quickly. Ilean on the other hand can't get enough love & affection, she is a total lap cat & wants to know everything that is going on. She gets along so well with only 3 legs. She doesn't let it stop her from doing anything. They love playing with there 40 balls they have collected. I really think having Ilean around has brought Cleo
out of her shell a bit. They love playing together, & annoying each other. We are really excited about out extended family. They really add alot to my husbands & my life. We really want to thank the animal shelter for letting us adopt Cleo & then letting us add Ilean to our family.
Thanks Again,
Tami & Ken

Otis
Adopted 2003.

Hello, it's me Otis. I am sending you some pictures of me in my new home. As you can see, I am very photogenic! My best friend is baby Sean. I follow him everywhere and my favorite place to sleep is under his crib. He has some fun toys too. I love to play fetch with his small squeaky toys. My mom and dad are fun too.
Dad likes to play games with me and watch me do somersaults while I chase my tail. I like to crawl up on mom's shoulders and groom her hair. I also like to sneak up at night and play with wiggling feet under the covers! I am very happy and very much loved. Thanks for taking such good care of me until I found my forever home! Love, Otis

Verne & Violet
Adopted May, 2003 by Julie.

Verne and Violet came into my home in May 2003 after the passing of my 7 year old Lilly. What a joy they are to have in the house!! Verne has decided that the house is his playground, often running complete circles through the downstairs while talking to himself. He brings me a toy every morning to wake me, then lays down next to me for a nap until I get up. He's just discovered how much fun making the bed can be, although he doesn't always get the sheets smooth. Violet was painfully shy at first, and would hide in the basement (I think it felt like the shelter and safe to her). Now she sleeps on the couch in Mom's spot, perches in the windowsills to watch the neighbors (Lance, Shermie and Didley), and plays with Verne and their multitude of toys. When Verne gets too rough, she simply bops him on the head with her tiny paw, and that's the end of that! Violet loves to sit on the steps and look out the front door that is mostly glass. she watches the birds for hours! Verne prefers the back door, and will catch any fly that dares come through. When I am outside, they sit at the back door and watch to make sure I'm not going anywhere. Sometimes Verne stretches to reach the door knob because he wants to be with me--they aren't allowed out. When I come home at night, they both run to see me and be petted, but I suspect that what they really want is their supper! They are wonderful additions to the family Thanks so much for sending their picture to me--I can't imagine not having them here.

Juice
Adopted Summer 2003.

Kathleen,

He now owns the house. No doubt you already figured that one out.

Jim

***

Kathleen,

Here is "The Juice's" four month photo. Hardly seems possible that we have had him for two months now. He was caught with a Beanie Baby for this photo. By the way, when we brought him home, he was the same size. He is a glutton for attention and has been a real joy. Thanks for the ray of sunshine.

Jim

Zoe
Adopted Oct 2002.

Hey Gang!

I just wanted to shoot you an email and tell you that Zoe (FKA Elsa) is adapting beautifully to her new surroundings. She brings so much joy to my life. She is giving Tuxie a run for his money around the house. She follows her big brother around everywhere. They play well together, and he is now getting tons of exercise running and jumping around with her. I think that it was a great decision to give him a companion.Tuxie has taken to grooming her over the past
couple of days. She is being smothered with love by everyone in the family when they come to visit. She is just adorable.

Thank you for all of your help in bringing a new joy into my home.

Take Care,
Kimberly L

Missy
Adopted Dec 2002.

I just wanted to let you know Missy is doing well. She didn't like the car ride too much but did fine with it. I was amazing that when she came out of her cage, she was purring. I've had her isolated until this evening when I shut the other 2 cats in the basement and let Missy explore the upstairs. She enjoyed that. She's eager for affection and playtime. She and the other cats are clearly aware of each other, but I'll keep them apart another day or two.

warmly,
Sam

Iris
Adopted Spring 2000.

Iris has been a part of our lives for about 2-1/2 years, since spring of 2000. An intelligent, assertive cat, Iris has no problem letting us know what she wants. She seems to be aware that she is black, as her hiding places become more and more inventive, and sometimes right underfoot. She has become extremely affectionate, and waits for her daily brushing when we walk in in the evening.

Leonard
Adopted 2002.

A picture of Leonard as a success story - the new king of the house relaxing in the window on a hot summer day.

Bella
Adopted by Erica in 2002.

I just wanted to send in a photo of Isabella (formerly known at the shelter as Colette) to show how well she has integrated herself into her new home. Bella caught my eye at the shelter with her friendly nature, she seemed to be showing off for me to impress what a cute kitty she was. After taking her home she wasn't scared at all, but she definitely had some rough points due to her not so great start in life. I had to use a lot of patience but she has come around great and gets along well with her "big sister" Sophie.

For anyone considering adopting a shelter cat I have to say, do it! It may be a bit of effort if the cat wasn't treated well, but a bit of love and training is all they need to become wonderful companions, and you will feel great knowing you rescued someone.

-Erica

Oedipus
Adopted Spring 2002.

Eddie is a loving and playful guy. He has a wonderful sense of humor. He loves being the center of attention. We oblige...

Fluffy and Abby
Adopted by Angie in December 2000.

Fluffy(the black cat) was very skittish when I first brought her home, and for the first several weeks she would hide behind the water heater and only come out when I was not home.

She now is my lap cat, who would have ever thought! She is a talker and loves attention!! Abby is also very sweet and very active. They both get along great and love to chase each other around and play!

Livi
Adopted by Laura H in January, 2001.

Happy New Year!

I am getting settled into my new home in Hyde Park. As you can see, I have a new laptop, so I got online to check on all my friends at theanimalrescue.com, and then decided to write in and show you this picture of me in my new digs.

I saw a picture of myself from when I lived at the shelter and I was known as Moe. I want to thank you all at the animal rescue for fixing my leg and helping me to feel good about myself again so that I could go live with a family that really needs me.

Warmest wishes for a happy new year,

Livi

Wally & Boo Boo
Adopted by JJ & Jayne in September, 1998.

Wally and BooBoo were adopted from you folks Sept. '98. Both are healthy, have the run of our 3 story home plus the basement and eat too well. BooBoo is the darker one and truly likes to sleep on any pillow she can find. Wally is the inquisitive one and always follows us around hoping for some surprise.

Smudge & Jack
Adopted by Chip & Wanda H. in Sept, 2000.

Chip & Wanda adopted two O.A.R. cats recently - Smudge and Jack. They are getting along very well together and apparently have been photographed many hundreds of times with mom's new digital camera!

More Pics! See Jack. See Smudge.

Joey Frederick Remington
Adopted by Carolyn H. in August, 2000.

Frederick was adopted recently by Carolyn H. along with four other cats! Carolyn tells us that he is full of energy and mischief. See Carolyn's other O.A.R adoptions.

Joey Joey
Adopted by Pam S. in June, 2000.

Joey is one of the lucky cats at the rescue. He was only here for a few days before he was adopted into a great home. Here Joey is shown doing one of his favorite things - relaxing on the couch.

Simon and Oliver Simon & Oliver
Adopted by Beth J. in May, 2000.

Although not real brothers, these two get along great together. Simon's mother was locked in a room without food or water for a week. Only one of Simon's siblings "Adele" survived. From these bleak beginnings come a happy story as Simon is now in a loving home, has a big brother "Oliver" to take care of him, gets plenty of Pounce treats, and weighs in at a hefty 7.5 pounds.
