Ohio Alleycat Resource's New Building & Spay/Neuter Clinic! Thanks to you and the support of the Greater Cincinnati community, Ohio Alleycat Resource is on the move! Please join us at our Open House on Sunday Dec. 9 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at 5619 Orlando Place in Madisonville. (Map) Tour our new facility, which houses a rescue for homeless cats awaiting adoption as well as a spay/neuter clinic for cats. Pet the cats, take a chance on some great raffle prizes, browse our shopping area, and enjoy desserts and appetizers as you visit our new home. We’d love to meet you! RescueThe new rescue will shelter the cats in small rooms that each house about 10 animals. This living arrangement is less stressful for the cats as they will have only a few roommates rather than dozens. Prospective adoptive parents will have a clearer view of the cats and their behavior as they are making the all-important decision as to which cat fits best into the family. Every room will have a window and a ramp so that the cats have elevated areas for playing or just getting away from it all. The rescue design also provides a healthier environment for the cats. There are rooms for quarantine of new arrivals and isolation of cats showing signs of disease to prevent spread of illness. There will also be a separate nursery for moms and kittens so that they are not exposed to germs. Spay/Neuter ClinicThe north side of the building houses our low-cost, high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter clinic for cats only. We are following the Humane Alliance model for the design and function of our clinic. Humane Alliance. an Asheville NC group, has been performing low-cost spay/neuter surgeries since 1994. The euthanasia rate at their local shelter has decreased by 70% since the opening of the clinic. We plan to show similar results. Operations will begin in our clinic in December on a limited basis. We anticipate holding Spay Day events on selected weekends beginning in January. Feral Cat Resource CenterIn keeping with our mission, we will expand our activities on behalf of feral and homeless cats. We will establish a food bank, lend trapping equipment, and provide information to those working with colonies throughout the Greater Cincinnati area. We are also establishing a framework for the countywide management of ferals that will improve the lives of the cats as well as their caretakers. The Indy Feral program in Indianapolis provides an excellent model for our endeavor. DonationsTo date we have raised more than $250,000 toward the purchase and renovation of the building and the surgical equipment for the clinic. There is still much more work to be done, and your donation would be greatly appreciated. Checks may be sent to: Ohio Alleycat Resource If you prefer to make a gift using a credit card, please click the “PayPal” link in the “Donations” section of our web site. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent the law allows. There are still naming opportunities available for the rescue and clinic. Donations of ANY amount are very much appreciated! Thank you for your support of the cats.
