Ohio Alleycat Resource & Spay/Neuter Clinic Receives $23,385 Grant from PetSmart Charities® to Provide $12 Cat Spay/Neuter Surgeries

Breaking news... Madisonville Residents, Fix Your Felines for FREE!

August 9, 2010 – Ohio Alleycat Resource & Spay/Neuter Clinic (OAR) has been awarded a $23,385 grant by PetSmart Charities® to assist cat caregivers in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Madisonville.  The grant will reduce the cost of OAR’s spay/neuter surgery-rabies vaccination package from $45 to $12, serving 425 of the estimated 1,500 unaltered cats in this neighborhood.  The program is available to all Madisonville residents, regardless of income level, and applies to pet, stray, and feral cats (the wild offspring of stray cats).  Appointments are required for the Spay/Neuter services.  Residents are encouraged to call (513) 871-0185, or consult the organization’s Website www.ohioalleycat.org for more information.

“We are excited to use our Clinic resources to assist our neighbors in significantly reducing the burden of cat overpopulation through spay/neuter”, said Liz Johnson, Executive Director of the Madisonville-based clinic, located at 5619 Orlando Place.   “We hope to reapply this collaborative program model to other Cincinnati neighborhoods”.  Adds Bob Igoe, Madisonville Community Council President, “We appreciate OAR’s willingness to partner with residents to improve their community”.

Ohio Alleycat Resource & Spay/Neuter Clinic was established in 1998 to promote humane methods for reducing the population of homeless cats in greater Cincinnati communities.  In addition to its high-quality, low-cost spay/neuter clinic serving up to 9,600 clients annually, the organization provides educational programs regarding feral colony management and responsible cat ownership, maintenance of a humane trap bank, as well as a small rescue of adoptable cats and kittens.  For more information on OAR and its programs, call (513) 871-7297, or visit www.ohioalleycat.org.
