New OAR Board Members & Revised Mission Statement

Three volunteers have joined the board of Ohio Alleycat Resource & Spay/Neuter Clinic:

  • Melissa McNally, a meeting and convention manager, serves on various OAR committees and is a general volunteer at OAR events. Melissa became involved with OAR after adopting three cats -- Liam, Kiefer and Lyle -- in 2007.
  • Dave Sageser, a retired Procter & Gamble engineer, was a Thursday morning volunteer from 2006 until OAR purchased the Orlando Place building. He became a full-time volunteer for a year as he worked on remodeling the building. Now Dave is a fill-in shift volunteer and handyman as needed. Dave and his wife, Iris, are foster parents for new arrivals and have adopted five “children” from OAR -- Ellie, Sophia, Stan, Greyson and Gigi (a.k.a. Snowflake). Dave also plays bass and sings with the band The Juice.
  • Kathy Schwartz, a writer and editor, has been a Tuesday morning shift volunteer since January 2009. She's on the fundraising committee and compiles the OAR 2.0 e-newsletter. Kathy and her husband recently lost their longtime feline companions Casey (age 13) and Buster (20) but plan to adopt from OAR soon.

They join Liz Johnson (director), George Jonson, Emily Moore and Kevin Nester.

In April, the board  adopted a revised mission statement  to better capture what OAR does:

“Ohio Alleycat Resource & Spay/Neuter Clinic is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Our mission is to enrich the lives of cats and communities in Greater Cincinnati by providing low-cost, high-quality spay/neuter services for ferals, strays and pets; offering TNR (trap-neuter-return) and other outreach programs; and running a small, no-kill adoption center dedicated to finding loving homes.”

Thank you to our staff, volunteers, donors, clients, adopters and others who help us achieve our goals.
